To set a new record, 298 persons performed a cannonball dive.

On June 25, 2022, celebrating LAGO Gent Rozebroeken's (Belgium) tenth anniversary, 298 persons participated in a cannonball dive, setting a new world record.

Families and children are welcome at LAGO Gent Rozebroeken, a water park offering various leisure opportunities, including swimming.

They attempted at their flagship location in Ghent, Belgium, which features an indoor pool and water slides large enough for the Olympics. In addition to its original location across Brussels, LAGO operates several other establishments in Belgium.

So, naturally, they had an event displaying their unique pool to honour their anniversary.

Before making our record attempt, people were asked to sign up in advance to get an accurate headcount.

Cannonballs, defined by Guinness World Records, involve diving with the knees brought up to the chest and the hands clasped around the knees.

For the dive to count, the diver had to maintain this position the entire time, including when submerged.

Before trying the dive, each competitor lined up along the perimeter of the 50-meter pool.

Everyone did a cannonball dive after the official three-two-one countdown from Victor Fences, a Guinness World Records adjudicator.

There was also an aqua fitness teacher named Yannick Vervaecke and a steward present to aid verify the attempt.

Although 345 persons claimed to have broken the record, only 298 were officially recognised as having done so.

The Salty Syndicate (New Zealand) in New Zealand established the previous record on October 26, 2013, with 232.

"For the 10th anniversary, we wanted to do something special, and the advancements were secondary to that. Quickly, talk turned to breaking the record for the largest cannonball dive. To take part in it was something that everyone was looking forward to. All smiles and high fives were seen throughout the celebration weekend and after the bomb went off." An emcee and a DJ kept the party going strong as the attempt time approached.

LAGO Gent Rozebroeken received their official Guinness World Records certificate after announcing their new record-breaking number.

With any luck, LAGO Gent Rozebroken may use this spectacular success as a springboard for planning additional year-long celebrations of their anniversary.
